San Diego Symphony concert lineup at Bayfront Music Venue – NBC 7 San Diego
As more and more San Diego County reopens, it may be music to your ears: more than 40 live acts are lined up to take center stage this summer and fall at the New York City’s new permanent music venue. San Diego Symphony by the Bay.
The San Diego Symphony announced its inaugural season lineup earlier this month on its outdoor site, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park – a long-standing project.
The San Diego Symphony will begin construction in September at Bayside Performance Park, a permanent concert venue along the scenic waterfront.
The venue is located on the Marina Park Way along the downtown South Embarcadero, south of Seaport Village, and replaces the old venue for the Symphony that took to the area each summer for the Bayside Summer Nights concert series.
The Rady Shell was originally scheduled to open last summer, but the coronavirus pandemic prevented this from happening as planned.
The site will now officially open this summer, with the opening weekend scheduled for August 6-8.
The opening night will include the inaugural gala and concert conducted by music director Rafael Payare, leading artists such as composer Mason Bates, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and bass baritone Ryan Speedo Green. More information about the inaugural show can be found here.
The San Diego Symphony said its inaugural lineup at the Rady Shell ranged from classical to Latin, jazz, pop and Broadway. Films will also be screened there – supported by a full orchestra play live score (From “Rocketman” and “The Goonies” to “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”).
