A Reggae Love disc jockey on Capital FM, DJ Ras Luigi is self-taught.

Talk to The audit, Ras, whose real name is Milan Nanjero, revealed that he learned to DJ on his own using tools available at home.

“I learned to DJ at home. I didn’t go to DJ school, ”he told Robert Alai, adding that he had moved on with the times but had stuck playing“ Roots ”throughout. his 17-year career.

Her journey began after sharing a mixtape with a fitness client who offered her a job on the spot.

“I gave the client a mixtape that he lost. I gave him another mixtape and after two days I got a callback from Capital FM, ”he said.

Ras, who also doubles as a fitness trainer, said he had worked for Capital FM for 17 years now and in its early days it was the only radio station to broadcast reggae music.

“Before Capital, I had tried to work with other stations. Some were unfriendly because I was a reggae DJ, ”he said, but declined to mention the station that kicked him out.

The disc jockey, who is also a recording artist, also said that while music was his saving grace, martial arts had also helped him get off the streets.

“My karate trainer introduced me to marijuana,” he said, but said he has since quit smoking the drug which has been legalized in some countries.

It was through taekwondo and boxing that he stopped fighting in the streets and instead concentrated elsewhere.

Now Ras, who doesn’t compete professionally in boxing, trains with the prison team.

Besides music, physical training and martial arts, Ras also supports street children in Parklands and a school in Kangemi.

The Hamomi Children’s Center supports at least 100 children in primary school and another 50 in secondary school.

“The school is facing financial difficulties after the withdrawal of the sponsor during the pandemic,” he said.

Back to music, Ras has already performed alongside reggae legend Don Carlos.

The award-winning DJ has also rubbed shoulders with Luciano and Morgan Heritage.
