Soul train was started by Cornelius, a former journalist, television host and disc jockey in Chicago. When the show ended in 2006, it had become the longest-running nationally first-aired show in television history.

During this race, Soul train became a staple of black culture for everything from its dancers to its famous dance line to the breadth of its guests which included almost all black musicians of the time and even some whites who wanted to be exposed to black audiences. . The closing line of Cornelius’ episode, “Love Peace and Soul,” has become synonymous with the series, entering the lexicon of entertainment and pop culture history.
